What makes a poster work
One message, readable at a distance. The most common failure is trying to say five things at the same size, which means the reader takes in none of them. Decide the single thing someone walking past must retain — usually the event and the date — and let everything else be smaller.
The second most common failure is no call to action. A poster that announces something without saying what to do next has wasted its last third.
- A headline under six words.
- Date, time and venue as a distinct block, not buried in a paragraph.
- Three to five highlight lines at most.
- One clear action: book, register, turn up, scan.
- Enough empty space that the headline has somewhere to breathe.
Printing and posting
A4 prints on any office printer for pinning up, and scales cleanly to A3 at a print shop for something more visible. The same PDF works as an image to share online, which is usually where most of the reach comes from.
If you are printing in colour on ordinary paper, prefer the designs with a lighter field — a full-bleed dark background eats ink and prints unevenly on uncoated stock.
Common questions
What size is the poster?
A4 portrait, which prints on any printer and scales to A3 without loss because the PDF is vector text rather than a bitmap.
Can I use my own image?
Yes. Upload one and the photo templates print it across the top. Landscape images work best. If the design you have applied has no image slot, the editor says so and offers one that does.
Can I make a flyer instead?
The same designs work — a flyer is a poster you hand over rather than pin up. Print A4 or ask a print shop to run two per sheet at A5.
